The latest issue of Kans&, the magazine of the EU programme Kansen voor West, includes an article about The Green Village on the TU Delft Campus. The article looks at the role fieldlabs play in scaling up innovations. PhD candidate Hannah Fults (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) discusses her research within the NWO programme Fieldlabs@Scale. She follows innovations for one to two years and maps the factors that help move solutions from the test environment into practice.
Together with Marjan Kreijns, director of The Green Village, Hannah shows that scaling up is rarely a straight line from test to market. It is more of a shared learning process, in which end users such as grid operators and housing associations are involved from an early stage. Her research also shows that fieldlabs deliver more than individual innovations. They lay the groundwork for new collaborations and for knowledge development.
